SPRING GUIDANCE
Posthumous (post·hu·mous) : following or occurring after death; Appearing or existing after the death or cessation of that to which its origin is due
Growing up, I played the piano and this word was on many pieces by Chopin (my favorite composer), and at the time I thought it was an ugly word. But now when I see or hear it, I think of Spring and witnessing what arises from the Earth after the dying back time of Winter. I think this is also within us- the decomposition of what we've released over the past year, breaking it down into the elements to support our new growth. But as we watch for the sprouting of new growth, new ideas, sometimes there are uncomfortable or unexpected things that come to the surface (think of "weeds"- we might not like them in our garden, but they serve a purpose to the soil & in this case, to our spirit).
I'm here to support you when the weeds show up - or to celebrate the new life! There's much coming to the surface during this time, and I'm working on tending to the new seedlings in my own soil, so my schedule is filling up quickly. Book your sessions in advance & let's dig in the dirt together.
EARTH HEALING
Our individual immune systems are inescapably linked to the planet Earth, of whose substance we are made. The entire planet Earth, the complete geosphere, has its own functioning immune system, a self-protecting, regenerating, healing system. When we are not integrated in that system, or we harm that system, the inevitable result is our own degeneration.
(from Empty Harvest, by Dr. Bernard Jensen & Mark Anderson)
It's "Earth Day" on the 22nd, and by some sources this is "Earth Month", but I'd like to call on this spirit every day. The Earth is fully supporting our life every single second of every single day. Our lives depend on it. But our Earth is getting sick from the prolonged un-thoughtfulness of human actions, and we need to find ways to help Her (and ourselves) heal.
So...What can you do for the healing of this planet every day?
1. Connect to the Earth - go outside, bare feet on the ground & connect with the energy of the Earth, give gratitude.
2. Support local farms - Conventional agricultural practices are detrimental to the Earth. When we choose to support local farms using organic & sustainable practices, we are strengthening our connections to the land and our local communities. Eat what is fresh & in season! Farmers' markets offer a great way to connect to local farms, and many offer CSA memberships for weekly/monthly delivery. Resource: Portland Area Farmers Markets
3. Plant a native species garden! - this is good for our local ecosystems, our bee & insect populations. ( I don't need to tell you this, but don't use pesticides in your yard. It harms insects, birds & mammals, plants, and seeps into our groundwater. We don't want that.). A great local resource: Sauvie Island Natives
4. Switch to recycled/sustainable home paper products - we want to walk beneath the old wise trees, not wipe our butts with them :). I really love products from Who Gives A Crap- eco friendly packaging, sustainable.
5. Avoid Amazon, buy local - purchase from local shops whenever possible to support our small businesses. Research where your products come from, and see what impact your purchases have on the Earth.
6. Donate to organizations that support Conservation- there are so many great organizations that support worthy environmental causes, this is just a tiny sampling:
